RANAU: Sports are not just a field of competition to pursue victory, but rather they are important platforms in shaping character, discipline and a spirit of sportsmanship among students.
Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Rusdin Riman said sports is a meaningful initiative in the effort to produce balanced and holistic students who not only excel in academics but also in physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual aspects in line with the aspirations of the national philosophy.
Through sports tournaments, he said, students have the opportunity to highlight their talents and potential, increase their level of physical intelligence and form moral values such as discipline, cooperation, leadership and a high spirit of sportsmanship.
“These values will shape the identity of students as competitive individuals with integrity and quality in the future.
“Through sports, we learn the meaning of cooperation, perseverance, leadership and mutual respect, values that are very important in everyday life,” he said.
Rusdin said this when officiating the 20th MSS SMK Ranau (SMKR) Athletics Championship which lasted for three days (Jan 27-29) at the Ranau Sports Complex on Tuesday.
He congratulated and thanked the SMKR Principal, Faridah Binti Raimin and also the Organising Committee Members, teachers and parents who have successfully organised the championship this year.
He sincerely hopes that the good relationship with the school, which has been established for some time, will continue to be strengthened for the sake of education and development of the young generation in this district.
He also hoped that the 2026 SMK Ranau Athletics Championship will be held smoothly, safely and achieve the objectives of its organisation. “To the athletes, compete with full spirit, discipline and always uphold the value of sportsmanship.
“Make this tournament a field to challenge your own abilities not just to achieve victory but as an opportunity to build confidence and identity. Remember that winning in style is proud but losing with dignity is more noble,” he said.
