Two held in Kunak over alleged pangolin trafficking

KUNAK: Two men aged between 30 and 40 were arrested on Wednesday after they were believed to be involved in wildlife trafficking when two live pangolins were found in a vehicle at Kampung Simpang Empat here.

The arrest was made during an Integrated Intra/Inter Agency Operation (Op Bersepadu Khazanah) conducted by the intelligence and task force team of the Kunak General Operations Force Battalion 22, with assistance from the Sabah Wildlife Department.

According to a statement from the Kunak PGA, an inspection of a Proton Saga FLX car carrying the suspects uncovered two sacks tied with rope, which were later found to contain two live pangolins.

Both suspects and the seized items were detained and subsequently handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department for further investigation under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
