SANDAKAN: Only one misconduct complaint has been reported since the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-election campaign began on Jan 10, with police saying it does not involve any serious offence or affect the electoral process.
Acting Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Fisol Salleh said a total of 926 police personnel have been deployed to ensure security and the smooth conduct of the by-election.
He said operations cover the Kinabatangan and Beluran district police headquarters, with overall command placed under the Kinabatangan district police chief.
Fisol said police preparations began on Jan 10 and, so far, no security or administrative issues have been raised, while urging all contesting parties to continue complying with election rules.
Police have issued 76 permits for campaign activities, and voters have been advised to turn up early on polling day on Jan 24, taking into account weather conditions and traffic movement.
