Kota Kinabalu: The Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) made an outstanding showing at last weekend’s Borneo International SUP Marathon 2026, earning multiple podiums finishes and marking a significant achievement for the club.
Club commodore Albert Shim in his statement released on Thursday said their athletes demonstrated exceptional skill, endurance and team spirit to put the club on the international SUP stage.
They returned with three gold medals in the 21km race through Yoann Martin in the men’s open, Reena James in the women’s open and Koh Cheng Hsiung in the men’s masters.
One silver came from Tiong Jia Yi in the women’s open with three bronze medals delivered by Susan Pan in the women’s open, Jarrow Marcus in the men’s masters and the relay team after putting out a tremendous fight before losing to the well-prepared Japanese/Thailand and Indonesian teams.
Shim congratulated the whole team for their achievement and paid tribute to team captain Sandeep Singh Gill for his inspiring leadership.
“A massive thank you to our team captain Sandeep — this victory wouldn’t have been possible without his leadership.
“A special shout-out also to vice commodore captain Allan Koay, and the general committee as well as those involved for their unwavering support and hard work to make us all proud,” he added.
