Man dies after 4WD swept away in Tawau flood
The victim's body is lifted onto a lorry.
TAWAU: A man in his 30s was killed after a four-wheel drive carrying four men was swept away while attempting to cross floodwaters that had already overtopped the road at Jalan Kampung Sungai Udin–Kalabakan at about 9.30pm on Thursday.

The vehicle reportedly veered off course and was dragged by strong currents, with the 4WD, its occupants and two motorcycles loaded at the rear all swept downstream.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the victim, who was riding in the cargo section, was found dead at 7.15am on Friday by oil palm plantation workers about 800 metres from where he was reported missing, while another man in the same section survived.

He confirmed that the 27-year-old driver and a 23-year-old front passenger were also safe, adding that firefighters arrived at 10.47pm with assistance from volunteer fire brigades, the Health Ministry, police and Civil Defence.
