PUTATAN: Six houses were destroyed in an early morning fire at Kampung Ketiau, here, on Tuesday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5.48am and fire engines arrived at the scene within four minutes.
The affected area was located about three kilometres from the Putatan Fire and Rescue Station.
Operations commander PBK I Linda Eslao Wagis said the fire involved six houses of non-permanent and semi-permanent structures, all of which were destroyed.
“The fire was brought under control at 6.24am and firefighting operations continued until 10.59am to ensure the area was fully secured,” she said.
Firefighters used three hose lines measuring 300 feet with six nozzles, with water sourced from fire engines, water tankers and an open water source (river).
No casualties were reported.
She said firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading further by saving seven nearby houses and a Proton Saga vehicle.
A total of 35 personnel from the Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu fire stations were involved, supported by several other agencies including Sabah Electricity, police, Civil Defence Force, and the Putatan District Office.
