KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has proposed a RM6.402 billion budget for 2026, themed “Accelerating Development, Prioritising the People’s Well-being,” as Deputy Chief Minister cum State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun tabled the 2026 State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Masidi said the estimates include projected revenue of RM6.430 billion, resulting in a modest surplus of RM28 million despite a slight reduction from last year’s allocation.
He said the budget is anchored on five pillars, beginning with accelerating growth in productive sectors through investment attraction to stimulate the economy and strengthen state revenue.
The other pillars focus on narrowing socio-economic gaps through inclusive measures, strengthening human capital via skills, productivity and innovation, and improving basic infrastructure, utilities and public amenities to support development.
Masidi said the fifth pillar centres on strengthening the State Government’s capacity and delivery system, with emphasis on efficient, transparent and prudent spending to curb wastage, inefficiency and leakages.
