Tawau residents shocked over viral messages on body find

TAWAU: Residents here are shocked over videos, images and voice messages claiming the discovery of a young boy’s body in a drain near Taman Ria 9, Jalan Utara.

When contacted by Daily Express, police confirmed that as of 4pm, no official report had been recorded.

According to two audio messages that went viral, the body was discovered by contractors after they opened a large water pipe in the residential area.

The body was reportedly swept away by strong water currents before being found in the drain, sparking public concern and anxiety over potential risks.

One audio voice message claimed that all water pipe repair works at the location had been immediately halted following the discovery.

Information from images shared by netizens on WhatsApp indicated the body was found at about 12.23pm.

A 21-second video shared on Facebook around 2.30pm showed that authorities had yet to identify the victim.

Questions arose among netizens about the circumstances of the incident, including whether foul play was involved and how long the body had been in the drain.

The video showed the body was discovered near a wooden house beside a main road. 

A 44-second audio message claimed the victim was a nine-year-old boy known as Yus, who lived in Taman Ria 5.

Contractors reportedly did not notice the boy walking near the site when they opened the burst pipe. 

The child was allegedly hit by a strong water surge after the pipe was opened, with his body only discovered minutes later.
