KOTA KINABALU: The Sungai Pin Conservation Area (SPnCA) will be featured as a case study in the upcoming ASEAN Handbook on Regenerative Tourism, a recognition expected to elevate Sabah’s conservation-driven tourism model at the regional level.
SKG Green Sdn Bhd CEO Philipa Datuk Wilfred Mojilis said the selection reflects growing acknowledgement of Sabah’s success in blending biodiversity protection with responsible tourism within a production landscape.
She noted that the handbook, to be circulated across ASEAN and international partners, offers Sabah a chance to share its conservation story globally.
Mojilis said SPnCA has become a flagship example of restoration, research and community-inclusive tourism, showing how palm oil areas can support rich biodiversity through responsible management.
She highlighted Sawit Kinabalu’s long-standing commitment to balancing development with environmental stewardship.
The 2,632-hectare SPnCA was established under a 2017 MoU between Sawit Kinabalu and the Sabah Forestry Department, forming a key wildlife corridor for orangutans, proboscis monkeys and other species.
Since then, SKG Green has planted over half a million trees and developed a formal management plan with technical input from the Forestry Department.
Mojilis said ongoing collaboration remains vital as SPnCA positions itself as a regional model for regenerative tourism.
