Young voters deserve real representation, says Chan
KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan’s Luyang candidate Chan Loong Wei (pic) said his bid for the Sabah Legislative Assembly is driven by the need to ensure the voices and struggles of a new generation are finally present at the decision-making table.

Chan, 25, said young Sabahans aged between 18 and 35 deserve an authentic representative who understands the demographic and economic shifts reshaping the state.

“I hope to be a generational leader in DUN Sabah, not just for myself, but for every young Sabahan who has dreams, who wants to come home, who wants Sabah to progress,” he said.

He said younger Sabahans have long been spoken about but rarely spoken for, and he hopes to change that by giving their concerns priority.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
Chan said many of Sabah’s immediate challenges—employment opportunities, brain drain, housing safety, public transport and rising living costs—disproportionately affect the younger generation.

He said his experience as a student council leader, community assistant and Political Secretary to the Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship has grounded him in both grassroots work and government processes.

“I have spent years on the ground in Luyang listening, serving and solving problems, while also working in government to attract investments, improve governance and support industrial growth,” he said.

He said his candidacy represents a mission to prove that young leaders can deliver results rather than rhetoric, especially for young families, jobseekers and students.

“If elected, I want to champion policies that strengthen education, create better jobs and build a Sabah where young people no longer feel they must leave to succeed,” he said.

Chan called on Luyang voters to give the younger generation a chance to lead, saying that victory on 29 November would belong to every young Sabahan who believes in hope, change and a better future for the state.
