KENINGAU: The Programme to Enhance Broiler Chicken Farming Productivity and Food Security in Sabah Through Targeted Capacity Building continued at the Sebrang Ruminant Farm here, with participation from broiler chicken farmers around the district.
Organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sabah Region in collaboration with the Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (DVS Sabah), the initiative is a strategic effort aimed at strengthening the value chain of the broiler chicken farming industry in the state.
Through targeted capacity building, participants are exposed to improved technical skills, commercial knowledge, and modern practices in broiler chicken farming.
This training series marks the third session following earlier programmes in Kota Kinabalu and Beaufort, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 120 broiler farmers.
According to DVS Sabah, applications for participation have been highly encouraging, but only small-scale farmers with basic experience were selected to ensure more effective programme outcomes.
The initiative aims to enhance the productivity of small-scale farmers, enabling them to transition to medium-scale operations in the future.
MPC Sabah Regional Director, Edward Binty, said the programme not only widens farmers’ knowledge but also helps them adopt new technologies in the industry.
“Productivity is no longer an option—it is a necessity to ensure the livestock industry remains sustainable and competitive. MPC is committed to empowering farmers in Sabah to improve operational efficiency and produce higher-quality livestock,” he said.
He added that the close cooperation between MPC Sabah and DVS Sabah is a proactive step in supporting both state and national food security agendas, in line with the Sabah government’s efforts to strengthen the agro-food sector through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan.
The programme is expected to generate positive impacts, including improved productivity among farmers, stable local chicken prices, and more substantial contributions to the state’s economy.
It is also hoped that this platform will become a continuous means of strengthening rural farming communities, while ensuring a stable, high-quality, and sufficient food supply for the people of Sabah.
