Kota Kinabalu: Compliance by political parties pertaining to installation of banners or flags around the city is under control. City Hall (DBKK) Deputy Director-General (Operations)
Robert Lipon said: “Only on the first one or two days after campaigning began there were banners and flags installed in places where they should not have been.
“For example, at roundabouts, on government signages and government buildings. All campaign materials placed in prohibited areas have been removed.
“DBKK together with the Public Works Department (JKR) issued a statement and DBKK itself contacted the election agents involved to comply with the rules and conditions set.
“Flags and campaign materials are now placed only in permitted locations.
“DBKK hopes this situation will continue until the election is concluded,” Robert said when officiating the My City My Responsibility awareness campaign at City Mall.
Robert also stressed that campaign materials must be fully cleaned up by the candidates soon as the election is over.
Should they fail to do so, their advertising deposit with DBKK would be forfeited.
Regarding the programme, Robert said more than 500 took part in the various competitions and activities throughout this month.
“We want to emphasise that awareness about cleanliness and the responsibility of managing waste is a shared responsibility, not only DBKK or government departments, but everyone,” he said.
