Kota Kinabalu: PN candidate for Sindumin Dayang Syafiqah Abdul Hamid her campaign theme is equitable access to quality education.
Drawing on her personal experiences as a substitute teacher in rural Sabah Dayang Syafiqah shared insights gained from her time teaching at schools such as SK Kelangsat, SK Merintaman, and SK Pekan.
“Spending nearly three months at each school provided me with firsthand knowledge of the challenges that are often overlooked in policy discussions,” she said.
She emphasised that poverty, limited educational resources, and inadequate basic facilities continue to impede the potential of rural students.
“Many of these children walk long distances daily to attend school, demonstrating incredible motivation and diligence.”
Dayang Syafiqah recounted her personal efforts to assist students, often giving them rides to school.
“This experience reinforced my belief that distance is a significant barrier that must be addressed through fair and inclusive policies.”
She stressed that relying solely on student determination is insufficient.
“We need structured solutions, including improved basic facilities, increased teaching staff, and equal access to quality education opportunities comparable to those in urban areas,”she stressed.
As a young candidate, Dayang Syafiqah aims to bring her practical classroom experience to policy-making.
“Sabah’s future hinges on how we strengthen the education of our children today, irrespective of their background or location,” she asserted, positioning education as a key priority for her campaign.
