TAWAU: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin reminded political leaders and campaign teams not to provoke anti-Malaysian Federation (Gagasan Persekutuan Malaysia - GPM) sentiments that could threaten national stability during the state polls.
He said all parties must prioritise the country’s unity and avoid stirring hostility towards GPM under the guise of political messaging throughout the campaign period.
Khaled told reporters at the Armed Forces Family Day Carnival in Tawau on Sunday that Sabah’s development depends on a strong working relationship with the Federal Government, which he said belongs equally to Sabahans.
He added that any attempts to fuel anti-GPM narratives could complicate the responsibilities of the Malaysian Armed Forces and urged voters, including army personnel, to consider the implications carefully.
Khaled also said Malaysia remains alert to the Philippines’ unresolved constitutional claim over Sabah and continues to strengthen defence readiness while ensuring the welfare of military personnel is supported by a stable government.
