Youths urged to vote with clear minds, careful judgment
KOTA KINABALU: Sayang Sabah Community Club deputy president Steve Johnny Mositun (pic) on Sunday urged voters to approach the coming State Election with calm reflection as polling day draws near.

The community activist said with less than a week before Sabahans head to the ballots, this is a period that demands thoughtful choices rather than decisions clouded by frustration or emotional impulses.

Steve reminded voters that every ballot cast will help determine Sabah’s direction, adding that the responsibility is especially significant for young people making up a large segment of the electorate.

"I encourage voters not to choose their representatives based on emotions, anger or frustration that may cloud their better judgment,” he said, noting that unverified claims and social media noise should not shape political decisions.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
He said youths should carry out proper and thorough research on every candidate seeking their trust, including understanding their backgrounds, performance and values.

"The same level of scrutiny should be given to political parties and coalitions, including their track records in government and opposition,” he added, stressing that voters deserve manifestos grounded in realistic and practical proposals.

Steve appealed to the public to reject hate politics that seek to divide communities along racial, district or economic lines, saying Sabah’s strength has always come from unity and mutual respect.

He also reminded young voters to remain wary of money politics, warning that short-term incentives “ultimately damage the State and weaken our democratic process.”

He urged voters to assess whether candidates’ pledges address long-standing issues such as employment, infrastructure, cost of living and equitable development, emphasising the need for leaders who place service above self-interest.

"As we approach Nov 29, I ask all Sabahans to vote wisely and uphold the dignity of our democratic process,” he said, expressing confidence that informed and united decisions will guide the State toward a stable and fair future.
