Kota Kinabalu: A total of 71 women candidates will be participating in the coming 17th Sabah State Election (PRU), making up roughly 12 per cent of the 596 total candidates.Of the 73 state seats up for grabs they are contesting in 46.

Banggi sees competition between Perikatan Nasional’s Rahimah Majid, Normalah Rasik (BN) and independent Sakinolin Mohamad. Fauziah M Fuad Stephens (Warisan) will compete in Bengkoka, while Datuk Julita Mojungki (GRS-PBS) will face off Jornah Mozihim (Warisan) in Matunggong.
Datuk Redonah Bahanda (GRS), Suzie Salapan (Upko) and Sitti Haima Jailani (PRS) will compete in Bandau, while Tandek will see Datuk Arlinsia Agang (Star) in competition. For Usukan, Isnaraissah Munirah Majlis @ Fakharudy will represent Warisan. Priskila Akwila Sinem will represent Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) in Kedamaian.
Tiaminah @ Siti Aminah Ele (PN-Bersatu) is contesting against incumbent Datuk Hajiji Nor in Sulaman, while Julia Ongkili and Niyky @ Niky J Bosikol, both from Parti Impian Sabah (PIS), will compete in Tamparuli and Kiulu respectively.
In Darau, Nabila Norsahar (PN-Bersatu) will compete against Meriah Osman (PIS). Meanwhile, Inanam will see Warisan’s Edna Jessica Majimbun in competition.
Likas and Api-Api seats will be contested by Candy Chiew and Soh Kee Suat respectively, both representing Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK). Adelaide Cornelius (KDM) and Annita F Shiela Among (Star) will contest for the Petagas seat, while Kapayan will be contested by Datuk Jannie Lasimbang (PH-DAP), Chin Ling Ling (PIS) and independent candidate Sabaria @ Sabariah Aziz.

Another independent candidate Linda Beda Dunstan will contest in Limbahau, while Beverley Natalie Koh and Dolores Michael representing Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) will compete in Limbahau and Kawang, respectively.
United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation’s (Upko) representative Rowindy Lawrence Odong will contest for the Membakut seat. Dinny Ginsik @ Annie Ginsik and Jurinah Nasir from PIS have been assigned to compete for the Kuala Penyu and Lumadan seats, respectively.
Dg Norsyafiqah Abdul Hamid (PN-Bersatu) will contest in Sindumin. Karanaan sees competition between Upko’s Georgina L George and independent candidate Naomi @ Neomi Francis, while Paginatan and Tambunan will see Anak Negeri’s Rubica Gabayoi and Dionysia Ginsos in competition, respectively.
Priscella Peter (KDM), Alviana Linus (Star) and independent candidate Fatimah Ibrahim will contest for the Melalap seat.
In Kemabong, Noorita Sual (PH-DAP) faces off against Datuk Rahmah Jan Sulaiman Khan (BN-Umno). Tulid sees competition between Rufinah Pengeran (PH-PKR), Lucia Kihing (Warisan) and Jufinah Dimis @ Hasnizah Abdullah (Rumpun).
Barisan Nasional sends Laiji Ompongoh to contest in Nabawan, while the Telupid seat will be contested by Jikmariya Muran (Star) and Simah Matusip (Warisan). Warisan also sends Sittinara Sakah to contest in Sungai Manila.
Nurulalsah Hassan Alban (Warisan) will face off Norani Asmatil (PN-Bersatu) in Sungai Sibuga, while Puan Sri Diana Diego @ Yusrina Sufiana will represent GRS-Usno in Sekong.
Elopura sees competition between Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat’s (KDM) Liao Fui Fui, Vivian Wong Shir Yee (PH-DAP) and independent candidate Lita Tan Abdullah. PH-DAP has also sent Tang Szu Ching to compete in Tanjung Papat.
Meanwhile, Mohina Sidom @ Mohina Ronnie Sidom will represent Upko in Kuamut against Warisan’s Norfaizah Chua @ Giak Kiang.
Saleha Abdul Wahid (BN-Umno) will compete in Tungku while Yvonne Yong Yit Phung (SAPP) will compete in Segama. In Silam, Mizma Appehdullah (GRS) will face off Balkis Hj Kalinggalan (PN).
Datuk Norazlinah Arif will represent GRS-Gagasan in Kunak, while Sumini Yasintus will represent PPRS in Sulabayan. Balung will see competition between Norazizah Pelari @ Palari (Rumpun) and Star’s Kerry Chee Kheng Moi.
PPRS also sends Marsiah Omat to compete in Apas. Lastly, Kukusan’s seat will be contested by Chaya Sulaiman (BN-Umno), Mariani Sulaiman (Anak Negeri) and independent candidate Rina Jainal.
Compared to the 2020 State polls, the number of women candidates have seen an increase of 29, from 43 to this year’s 71.
