Kota Kinabalu: European Wellness Premier Centre (EWPC) has been officially appointed as Sports Rehabilitation Partner of Sabah FC following the signing ceremony between the two parties held at the EWPC Premier Centre in Alam Mesra, Likas on Friday.
EWPC founder Professor Dato’ Sri Dr Mike Chan, a prominent figure in regenerative medicine, who has been actively involved in sports dated back to the eighties with the Arsenal football team, Valencia basketball team and others, and more recently the NFL and Super Bowl in the US.
He said the strategic collaboration is aimed at enhancing athlete performance, recovery, and sports science excellence.
“We have to do something in Sabah and revive football to the next level. I sincerely think that science is very important in winning a match.
“To recover after a football match is not easy. It itself needs strong heart and a strong lung and with science I believe I can give a footballer or sportsman a stronger endurance and stamina to push to the next level,” he said.
He also said they have one of the best facilities available in the world right here.
“We are much ahead by German standards because a lot of equipment available here is not allowed in certain parts of the world like in the US or even in Germany.
“The government has been very supportive to us in a good way. So, make full use of the facilities here and even with some of the devices, we can control emotion to calm you down to prepare for a match sometimes.
“With our good team of doctors, we will provide the best as much as we can and I am looking forward to contributing our part,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sabah FC General Manager Mohd Joh Wid said the signing of the strategic partnership agreement is a boost to the sport in the state.
“It is a very meaningful step not only for the team, but also for all football fans in Sabah.
“European Wellness is now an important strategic partner in ensuring that our players have access to sophisticated modern treatments to effectively apply sports science to our team.
“This is very important to ensure the players remain at maximum fitness in every match as team performance is often affected when players suffer injuries and the recovery process usually takes a long time.
“However, with the sophisticated equipment and expertise available at this centre, the process can be shortened, even giving players the opportunity to return to action in a more fit and energetic state.
“I hope that this partnership will continue to be strengthened and provide great benefits to Sabah FC,” he said.
