Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Natalie Chong Yi Wen and Nur Aleeya Syakirah contributed a gold medal for Malaysia in the women’s team event at the International Friendship Youth Championship held in Doha, Qatar on Friday.
The pair, along with their teammates Qurratu’Ain Izdihar Pozi and Intan Nor Edryana Nor Azliman, scored a total of 5,311 pins, leading comfortably over their closest rivals from the Philippines, who scored 4,991 pins, and the Czech Republic with 4,879 pins.

Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association president Rozzainny Sham Talip expressed his pride in the girls achievement, congratulating them for their significant contributions to Malaysia’s success in the competition that saw participation from 13 countries.
Meanwhile, he also praised the state juniors who had a successful outing at the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Tenpin Bowling Junior Circuit 2026 – Sarawak Leg concluded on Thursday (Feb12) at the Sarawak Megalanes, Batu Kawa Kuching.
The state contingent represented by 84 athletes aged 18 and below returned with three goals and three bronzes in the three-day competition.
They dominated the open event with Miasara Adawiyah Saiful winning the girls’ title and Muhammad Zaki Abdul Rahman ruled supreme in the men’s category.
The other gold medal came from Hafiz Saiful in the boys’ under-12 category, while the bronze medals delivered by Chloe Ho Rui Zhi in the girls’ open, Mohammad Danish Hakim Fadzil in the boys’ open and Aisyah Hana Anugerah in the girls’ under-12.
Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association deputy president Aisyah Abdullah, who led the contingent was pleased with the overall performance of the athletes, highlighting the effectiveness of the Sabah Sports Council’s ‘Bakat’ and ‘Pelapis’ training programs.
She hoped they can sustain their momentum and drive further improvement for the Sabah Leg scheduled in July.
