Family discovers body of missing Semporna fisherman

SEMPORNA: A 36-year-old permanent resident who went missing while diving for fish off Pulau Bum-Bum here was found dead on Friday afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department said the man was reported missing on Thursday and a joint search was launched with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Civil Defence Force and police.

Rescuers began the second day of the operation at 8.20am on Friday despite phone and radio disruptions near the search site.

The victim was later found by his family at Pancang Pusingan at 4.13pm before being brought to the Marine Police jetty, where he was confirmed dead by police.
