SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Golf & Country Club (SG&CC) recently hosted the Sandakan K9 Charity Golf Tournament 2025 at its course in Mile 6, Jalan Utara, marking the meaningful return of the charity event after several years on pause.
A total of 78 golfers took part, comprising Sandakan K9 members, SG&CC members and invited guests.
With an entrance fee of RM150 per participant, the tournament collected RM11,700, while an additional RM57,300 was donated by 63 benefactors, bringing the total funds raised to RM69,000.
Funds were channelled to three local charities bodies namely; The Hospice Association Sandakan, Persatuan S.L.E. Malaysia Sabah Chapter and Sandakan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Each beneficiary received RM23,000 to support their ongoing community work.
SG&CC President and former K1 (head of the K9 group), Henry Chu expressed appreciation to all participants, donors and guests who supported the event.
He also commended organising chairman and current Sandakan K2, Gan Ping Sin, for revitalising the tournament.
Gan, who also served as the Master of Ceremony, acknowledged the guidance of Henry Chu and immediate past K1 Roger Goh, alongside the contributions of major donors Khor Cheng Joo and Steve Pua, who each donated RM10,000, as well as RM2,000 from their flight.
He also noted the RM3,000 contribution from Ben Chong, current K1 of the Sabah K9 group, despite his absence.
The event also welcomed several former K1 leaders, including S.K. Voon, President of Kudat Golf Club, Robert Chu, Ang Hong Swee, Lee Thien Kooi, and Roger Goh.
As for the tournament results, the Nett Category won by Tai Min Hen, 1st Runner-up Liu Tzi Kin (1st runner-up) and Liu Vui Yin (2nd runner-up).
As for Gross Category, Nurul Syahirah emerged as the winner while Busran Nordin on 1st runner-up and Mohd Sapre (2nd runner-up).
The event concluded with the presentation of mock cheques to the three beneficiary organisations.
