Water, power projects advanced only after Bung left, says Armizan
TAWAU: GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic) said claims by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin that the GRS government is the world’s most failed administration only reflect back on Bung’s own record.

He said the coalition lost its first two years in office between 2021 and 2022 because it had to work under a Works Minister (Bung) who failed to advance key water projects long planned for Tawau and Papar.

Armizan said major water stabilisation projects such as the Cinta Mata 2 water treatment plant in Tawau and the Kogopon upgrade in Papar began only after Bung left the ministry, with a new Balung II plant slated for 2026 under GRS planning.

He said it was also inaccurate for Bung to blame GRS for Sabah’s long-standing electricity problems as regulatory powers were only returned to the state in January 2024, while SESB remains majority-owned by the federal government.

Armizan said more stabilisation works, including the Southern Link Phase 1 grid project on the east coast, moved forward only after Bung and Umno were no longer part of the State Government.
