Kota Kinabalu: Civil servants who are registered voters in Sabah are reminded to exercise their voting responsibility in the 17th state election.
Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Mohd Razali Wahab said civil servants play an important role in setting an example for the public by turning out to vote, while ensuring that the democratic process proceeds smoothly, transparently and with integrity.
“Supporting the election by going out to vote and ensuring its smooth conduct does not mean taking sides with any political party.
“Rather, it reflects our commitment to an administrative system grounded in the rule of law and the principles of parliamentary democracy,” he said in his address while chairing the Meeting of Sabah Heads of Federal Departments and Federal Statutory Bodies, here.
Mohd Razali also reminded all government officers to remain professional and responsible, and to ensure that official departmental matters are not influenced by any element of partisan politics.
“Guided by a code of integrity, the duty of a civil servant is to deliver services to the people in accordance with the principle of serving the government of the day.
“I hope all civil servants will discharge their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism throughout the state election period,” he said.
According to Election Commission statistics, a total of 1,784,843 voters, comprising 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses, are eligible to vote in this election.
