Loke says Ewon ‘playing to the gallery’ on 40pc issue
Loke says Ewon’s (inset) resignation over Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement was more political theatre than principle.
KOTA KINABALU: DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke accused Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick of seeking public sympathy over the 40 per cent revenue entitlement issue rather than raising his objections in the Cabinet.

He said the Federal Cabinet held a special meeting on 11 November solely to discuss Sabah’s revenue rights, marking the significance of the matter.

Loke explained that the government decided not to appeal Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement but would contest specific legal findings that suggested federal power had been misused since 1974.

He said Ewon continued to claim the Cabinet sidelined Sabah’s views even though he missed the meeting despite knowing it was convened to resolve the issue.

Loke added that Ewon, whose resignation as Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister only takes effect in December, should have confronted the Cabinet and the Attorney-General directly if he felt strongly about the matter.
