Tenom: Deputy PKR President and Central Election Department Director, Nurul Izzah Anwar, praised the selection of Datuk Jamawi Jaafar as the candidate for the Melalap state seat, saying his leadership could accelerate development in the area.
Speaking during the Harapan Urang Sabah tour in Melalap, Nurul Izzah said Jamawi’s experience in youth advocacy, entrepreneurship, and rural digitalisation would strengthen progress across infrastructure, education, and the local economy.
“Datuk Jamawi has an excellent track record and a clear understanding of the real needs of Melalap residents.
If given the mandate, we are confident he can strengthen essential development — from roads and water supply to educational facilities and youth economic opportunities,” she said.
She added that voter support for the GRS-PH candidate would ensure continuity in planned initiatives, including upgrading village amenities, expanding healthcare access in remote areas, and improving telecommunication and internet connectivity.
“Our goal is a comprehensive transformation — not just physical infrastructure, but also improving living standards. Melalap has the potential to become a model for rural development with strong community support,” Nurul Izzah said.
She emphasised that the GRS-PH partnership aims to maintain political stability while ensuring that state development plans are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
“With political stability, rural development can accelerate, ensuring Melalap enjoys progress on par with other regions,” she added.
Nurul Izzah also reiterated the coalition government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities are not left behind, particularly in education, employment, entrepreneurship, and digital opportunities.
“Strong, integrity-driven leadership that stays close to the people will be the catalyst for positive change in Melalap. Our aspiration is for Melalap’s youth — and all of Sabah’s — to have equal access to education, skills training, technology, and economic opportunities. Now is the time for Melalap to move forward,” she said.
The announcement followed PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unveiling of the party’s 10 state assembly candidates for Sabah’s 17th state election, including:
Datuk Peto Galim (Inanam), Thonny Chee (Api-Api, replacing Datuk Seri Christina Liew), Awang Husaini Sahari (Petagas), Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa (Sindumin), Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (Melalap), Abdul Said Pimping (Gum-Gum), Datuk George Hiew (Karamunting), Romansa Lamin (Segama), Datuk Ruji Ubi (Merotai), and Rufinah Pengeran (Tulid).
