SANDAKAN: Residents of Kampung Kombo can now breathe a sigh of relief after a steep pathway in their area was fitted with new railings and handrails, reducing the risk of accidents that had frequently occurred before.
The pathway, which leads to several wooden houses on a hillside slope, had long raised safety concerns after several residents, including elderly citizens, suffered falls due to loss of balance. Parents were also worried about their children’s safety when using the route.
Incumbent Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, together with his Karamunting Task Force Team, took the initiative to install the railings and handrails along the entire pathway to enhance the safety of residents and visitors.
The team also installed solar-powered lights along nearby walkways to improve visibility and safety at night.
