Kota Kinabalu: Semporna-based Mataking Reef Resort won an Asean Influential Brand Award in addition to Certificate of Distinction and a Certificate of Recognition for Corporate Social Responsibity (CRS) at the inaugural Asean Influential Award 2025 held at the Marriot Hotel, PutraJaya Saturday.
Among 23 Asean Influential Brand Awards, 14 Asean Influential Leader Award plus an assortment of Certificates, Mataking Reef Resort was the only company from Sabah represented.
The event is organised by the International Strategic Institute and Guest of Honour was Nurdiana Abdullah, Deputy Director of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Unit, Matrade.
On stage to receive the awards were Managing Director Sophia Sie, Operation Director Jeffrey Yee Lee Phin and Resort Manager Masuara Majawi.
The resort was set up in 2004 on a pristine island by the same name by palm oil tycoon, the late David Sie, Sophia’s father.
The resort has 50 rooms including 20 new water villas, attracting mainly tourists from China. The area around resort has 30 dive sites and also an artificial reef consisting a sunk steel cruiser.
It also has a strong turtle conservation hatchery .
