Gerakan to contest three seats under Perikatan Nasional
Lau (centre) said the party remains confident of its support base in both constituencies, adding that Gerakan still has loyal members, including veterans, who continue to assist the party machinery.
SANDAKAN: Gerakan announced plans to contest three state seats under the Perikatan Nasional banner — two in Sandakan and one in Kota Kinabalu — in the coming Sabah election.

Gerakan President Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the seats are Elopura, Tanjung Papat and Luyang, adding that the party has finalised its candidates and will contest under the Perikatan logo.

“The list has been submitted to Perikatan and will be announced by Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during the coalition’s candidate announcement in Kota Kinabalu on Nov 11,” he told a press conference here, Friday.

Asked why the party chose Elopura and Tanjong Papat, Lau said Gerakan had previously won the seats when it was part of the then ruling coalition.

He said the party remains confident of its support base in both constituencies, adding that Gerakan still has loyal members, including veterans, who continue to assist the party machinery.

On the “Sabah for Sabahans” sentiment, Lau said the party fully acknowledges it and has decided to field local Sabahan candidates in the election.

Earlier, Lau and other Gerakan leaders visited several areas in Sandakan, meeting with local communities, fishermen, taxi associations, small business operators and others to hear their concerns.

Among the issues raised were waste management in water villages, poor road conditions, electricity and water supply, employment opportunities and the presence of undocumented foreign workers.
