TAWAU: The 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade’s combat readiness will be tested during the 10-day Exercise Tiger Gold (ETG) with the British Army here until Nov 14.
The joint drill involves 500 personnel from Malaysia’s 26th Royal Malay Regiment and the UK’s 2nd Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles to enhance jungle warfare operations and counter-insurgency knowledge exchange.
Brigadier General Datuk Jagjit Singh Indar said the exercise aligns with the Army Chief’s fifth directive on Defence Diplomacy, focusing on regional collaboration through shared field experience in the Tajong Tawau Forest Reserve.
He said this marks the first time the 13th Brigade is training with European forces, adding that Malaysia’s long-standing success in counter-insurgency serves as a model for other nations.
British Defence Adviser Colonel James Green described the exercise as a reflection of Malaysia-UK defence ties, noting that both armies share similar traditions and operational values despite different environments.
