516 participants at Indonesian jamboree

SANDAKAN: Some 516 participants comprising students from 42 Community Learning Centres (CLC) statewide and the Kota Kinabalu Indonesian School (SIKK) took part in the 9th Jamboree Anak Indonesia di Malaysia (Jaim) held at Gilwell Nature Scout Park, Batu 4, here, recently.

SIKK Principal, Sahyuddin, said this year’s Jaim, themed “Merajut Persahabatan, Merayakan Budaya Serumpun” (Weaving Friendship, Celebrating Shared Culture), is aimed at developing the students’ potential, interests, talents and character while strengthening friendship between Indonesian and Malaysian students in Sabah.

“More than just an annual event, we hope Jaim will continue to foster the spirit of rationality and the values of a true scout among the participants,” he told the media.

He also expressed appreciation to all those involved in making the programme a success.

Present were Sabah Scouts Deputy Chief Commissioner Lawrence Tan, Sandakan District Police Headquarters (IPD) Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division Head ASP Mohd Farid Abdul Ghani, and Technical Staff from the Indonesian National Police (Polri) at the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) in Tawau, Muliyawaty Syam.

Also in attendance were CLC Kota Kinabalu Liaison Coordinator (KP) Nasrullah Ali Fauzi, KP CLC Tawau Riky Riksmansyah, Gilwell Scout Nature Park Sandakan representative Bacho Tali, and other guests.

Meanwhile, Lawrence welcomed the hosting of Jaim in Sandakan, noting that several local scouts were also invited to join the jamboree.

He said scouts everywhere, whether in this country or abroad, are like brothers and continue to uphold the values of friendship and shared culture through jamborees and Scouting activities at state, national, and international levels.
