RANAU: Two men drowned after their four-wheel drive vehicle was swept away while attempting to cross Sungai Moroli in Kampung Narawang, here, on Saturday morning.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Rantey Fred said his team received an emergency call at 10.22am and immediately deployed six personnel, assisted by police, auxiliary firemen, and villagers.
The Ford Ranger carrying the victims was found about 200 metres downstream, but both men were missing when rescuers arrived at the scene.
Members of the public later discovered the bodies — one at 11.18am and the other 30 minutes later — at separate locations along the river.
The victims were confirmed dead at the scene and their bodies handed over to police for further action, with the operation concluding at 1.23pm.
