SANDAKAN: Police foiled a drug distribution operation with the arrest of a 42-year-old Filipino and the seizure of syabu worth about RM48,000 during a raid at a squatter settlement in Batu 3, early Thursday.
District police chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the 5am operation by the Sandakan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, assisted by the Prevention Division, followed intelligence and surveillance efforts.
He said the suspect was detained in a stilt house believed to have been used as a storage site for drug supplies in the area.
Police recovered a total of 1,464.4 grams of syabu in several plastic packages, while a urine test showed the suspect was positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
George said the man is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping upon conviction, adding that police will intensify efforts to keep Sandakan free from drug-related crimes.
