RANAU: Environmental health factors play a very important role in ensuring the well-being of the people, said the Member of Parliament for P.179 Ranau, Datuk Jonathan Yasin.
According to him, a clean environment, safe water, organized waste management and control of vector-borne diseases - all have a direct impact on the quality of life and health of the community.
“The theme of this year’s World Environmental Health Day (WEHD) celebration ‘Clean Air, Healthy People’ is very much in line with our efforts towards a healthy and sustainable community.
“Efforts such as gotong-royong, health screening and community exercise activities and cleanliness campaigns not only raise awareness, but also strengthen the spirit of unity and shared responsibility in maintaining public health.
“I would like to call on all parties - from government agencies, local authorities, the private sector, NGOs to the local community - to continue to work together to ensure that the environment remains clean, safe and healthy,” he said.
Towards that end, he stressed that health is not solely the responsibility of individuals, but the responsibility of the entire community.
Jonathan, represented by the Chief Parliamentary Liaison Officer, Benedict Gunda, said this when officiating the WEHD 2025 Celebration and the Healthy Malaysia National Agenda (ANMS) - Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Tour Program at the district level here recently.
He commended the Ranau District Health Office for the initiative to organize the WEHD 2025 program which was combined with the meaningful ANMS Tour Program in the Ranau district.
He added that the organisation of the ANMS Tour is a continuation of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to empower the community to play an active role in taking care of their own, family and community health.
“The ANMS approach emphasises four main thrusts - people’s empowerment, environmental support, multi-stakeholder cooperation and the well-being of the entire community.
“Therefore, we hope that the spirit shown in the programme will continue through concrete actions at work, at home and in our respective neighbourhoods.
“Hopefully this programme will become a platform to strengthen health awareness, strengthen community relations and inspire positive actions for the well-being of Malaysians,” he explained.
The program held near the Ranau Health Office in Kiaburi involved activities such as aerobics, WEHD 2025 Run, goodies distribution, health exhibition, fun games, free market, One Malaysia clean-up Kiaburi Town, lucky ticket draw, Aerodance competition, and The Biggest Loser prize presentation.
The Biggest Loser program is an initiative organized by the Occupational and Environmental Health Unit (KPAS), Ranau District Health Office. This program involved the participation of KKM staff at PKD Ranau and was evaluated throughout the period from January to October 2025.
