RANAU: PDRM advises road users around Ranau to be prepared for possible traffic congestion, especially in main areas and on routes into and out of the district during the Aidilfitri holiday.
The current situation shows that congestion occurs around Ranau Town and along the main route from Kundasang to Ranau due to an increase in the number of vehicles, especially ahead of the festive season. Unstable weather conditions can also affect the smooth flow of travel.

Several causes of congestion have been identified, including people returning to their villages or travelling to holiday destinations in Ranau and Kundasang. At the same time, hilly road conditions and sharp bends slow down traffic flow.
In addition, police stated that minor accidents or the presence of heavy vehicles can also cause traffic to slow.
Towards that end, motorists can travel via suggested alternative routes, including Jalan Kibas to Jalan Tambunan; Bundu Tuhan to Jalan Tambunan; Kota Kinabalu via Penampang to Jalan Tambunan; and Kundasang via Jalan Dumpiring, Mohimboyon, Tambiau, and Marapong to Jalan Tambunan.
Road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid peak hours, use alternative routes where necessary to avoid congestion, obey road rules, and refrain from dangerous driving.
Motorists are also urged to obtain the latest traffic information via social media or navigation apps, while ensuring their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on long journeys.
“PDRM will continue to monitor traffic conditions and provide the latest information from time to time. The cooperation of all parties is greatly appreciated for the sake of smooth traffic flow and mutual safety,” said a recent police statement.
Meanwhile, the Sabah Contingent Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) announced the implementation of “Op Tembak Laju”, which will be carried out comprehensively in all districts from March 19 to 24.
The operation is being conducted in conjunction with Op Selamat 26, which aims to minimise the risk of road accidents and educate road users to comply with the legally prescribed speed limits.
The JSPT emphasised that no discounts would be offered for summonses issued during this operation period. This ruling includes summonses for speeding violations as well as all other traffic offences, to ensure that enforcement integrity remains at the highest level.
PDRM calls on all members of the public to provide full cooperation by practising safe driving. Road safety is a shared responsibility for the well-being of the community in the State.
