KENINGAU: A major infrastructure development is set to take shape here, with the approval of the Keningau Sentral integrated bus terminal project by the State Government.
Fully funded by the Sabah Government, the project is one of key initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and aims to position Keningau as a central transport hub connecting major destinations across Sabah and beyond.
The new terminal will serve both local and long-distance routes, linking Keningau with Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sipitang, Beaufort, Menumbok, Tambunan, Tenom, Sook, Nabawan, Ranau and Sandakan, thus enhancing connectivity and convenience for residents.
Spanning 30,000 square feet, Keningau Sentral will feature a modern design with covered platforms, public toilets, a surau, commercial spaces and 500 parking bays. Safety will be prioritised through the installation of fencing, CCTVs and organised bus counters.
Keningau Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Youth Secretary Rafie Robert said the project would not only improve the district’s transport system but also create new economic opportunities for the local community.
“It is expected to ease traffic congestion while accelerating social and economic growth in the area,” he said.
The development reflects the Sabah Government’s commitment under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to strengthen basic infrastructure and stimulate local economic activity.
Authorities hope the project will proceed smoothly and deliver long-term benefits to the people of Keningau and neighbouring districts.
Once completed, Keningau Sentral is expected to emerge as a modern, efficient and competitive transport hub, and enhance the district’s appeal for tourism and future investments.
