KOTA BELUD: A woman in her 70s was found burnt to death in her bedroom after a fire destroyed her home at Kampung Bangkahak Sunsum early this morning.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Elgie Bakuk said the emergency call was received at 2am, prompting a team of ten firefighters to rush 13 kilometres to the scene with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit.
Upon arrival, the team found the non-permanent wooden house completely engulfed in flames and managed to extinguish the fire using two hoses from the fire engine.
The woman’s remains were later handed over to the police and sent to the Forensic Unit of Kota Belud Hospital for further action.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, while the operation concluded at 5.30am after ensuring the area was safe.
