LAHAD DATU: A total of 26 illegal immigrants were detained following the Ops Selera, Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip conducted in Lahad Datu and Kunak on Oct 14 to 15.
The operations aim to flush out the illegal immigrants and ensure compliance to the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The Sabah Immigration Department in a statement said, in the first operation on October 14, the team inspected a premise in Kunak,resulting in the arrest of a Filipino who failed to produce any valid travel document.
On Oct 15, Ops Sapu were conducted in some settlements in Kunak. A total of 93 individuals were inspected, resulting in the arrest of 11 Filipinos comprising seven men, three women and a boy.
On the same day, the Lahad Datu Immigration Department executed Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip in some settlement areas in the district.
The department disclosed that 55 individuals were inspected and 14 Filipinos comprising nine men, four women and a girl were arrested for failing to produced valid travel documents.
They were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department said that the operation is part of continuous efforts conducted by the department to curb the presence of illegal immigrants.
The department also calls on the public to continue channeling information on the presence of illegal immigrants in their respective areas so that immediate action can be taken.
Sabah Immigration Department also added that enforcement operations will be intensified from time to time to combat the presence of illegal immigrants to guarantee the safety and well-being of the people.
