Open Dance championship visitors urged to explore State
The participants from Malaysia and other countries.
Kota Kinabalu: First-time visitors who came to participate in the 21st Sabah Open Dancesport Championship 2025 are urged to explore Sabah as a world class eco-tourism destination.

Caretaker Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew made the call when officiating at the event held at Hotel Promenade on Saturday.

“Take this opportunity to visit the nearby islands and explore the majestic Mt Kinabalu and Kinabalu Park, a Unesco World Heritage site, among the many attractions that Sabah can offer. 

“Do take advantage of our newly-launched ‘Hop On, Hop Off’ city bus service to tour places of inteSome 160 participants, including overseas competitors from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, vied for honours in the championship.rest in and around Kota Kinabalu City,” Liew said.

Some 160 participants, including overseas competitors from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, vied for honours in the championship.

The Minister commended the Imperial Ballroom Dancing School Kota Kinabalu and other dancing schools in the state for having positively contributed to building a better and healthier society for the state.

“You have given openings for the young and elderly to avail themselves of a good avenue to express themselves with confidence and to showcase their hitherto unrevealed natural skills,” she said.

Organising Chairman cum Principal of the Imperial Ballroom Dancing School Kota Kinabalu, Antony Keung said organising an event of this magnitude for the 21st time was a monumental task.

“This would not be possible without the unwavering support of many individuals, organisations and well-wishers. Our appreciation to the Tourism Minister, in particular, for her consistent support for this championship. It is this very support that has been the cornerstone of our success.

“Her Ministry’s vision in promoting culture and dancesport has allowed this annual event to flourish and put Sabah firmly on the global dancesport map,” he said.

Keung introduced Liew to the Chief Judge of the competition, William Lor, President of Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers Association, Lawrence Chan, President of Malaysia Dancers Association, Yeap Yen Chin, and a panel of 20 adjudicators.
