KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has firmly denied claims linking his wife to the recent death of a Form One student, Zara Qairina Mahathir.
He described the allegation made by Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan as baseless and unfair, particularly as his wife retired from public service last November.
Mustapha clarified that his wife, Rosnih Nasir, served as principal of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan in Papar from March 20-Nov 22, 2024, and has had no involvement with the school since.
He stressed that the tragic incident involving Zara occurred in mid-July this year, nearly eight months after his wife’s retirement.
Mustapha extended heartfelt condolences to Zara’s family and urged all parties to refrain from politicising the tragedy while allowing police investigations to proceed.
