Kota Kinabalu: The court set April 22 for e-review to fix the ruling date on a case involving a man charged with trafficking three women from Thailand for the purpose of sex exploitation.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz set the date for Chin Lol Vui, 32, when the defence closed its case after calling two witnesses.
The court also fixed for written submissions from both parties on or before April 22 for reply, if any.
Chin is accused of trafficking the three women in their 30s, at 2.30pm on Nov 4, 2017 at a hotel in Lorong Kemajuan, here.
He allegedly committed the offence together with two accomplices still at large.
The offence, under Section 12/34 of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Smuggling of the Migrants Act 2007, carries a jail term of up to 15 years and fine on conviction.
Counsel Edward Paul defended Chin.
In another case, five people were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.
Bagus Mohd Jong, Al Aziz Kapuning, Abil Rajik, Edwin Ajaral and Romi Aukasah, pleaded guilty to entering the State without any identity documents.
They were arrested in the city and Papar area between Jan 26 and Feb 2 this year after failing to produce their documents to the police.
The court ordered the illegal immigrants to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after completing their sentence for deportation.
