Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years’ jail and ordered to be given two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here on Friday after he pleaded guilty to raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain handed down the sentence against the accused, who committed the offence under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code at 1pm on March 28 this year inside the toilet of a house in Manggatal.

The court heard that the man pulled the victim into the toilet from the living room, restrained her by the chin to prevent her from speaking, and forced her to the floor before raping her despite her attempts to escape.

The victim subsequently disclosed the assault to her sister, who informed their aunt before a police report was lodged that led to the man's arrest.

In addition to the custodial sentence and whipping, the court ordered the man to be placed under police supervision for two years upon completion of his prison term.
