LABUAN: A hotelier here who raised concerns over a shocking electricity bill to Daily Express (May 14) has received a refund of about RM3,000 after a second meter reading by SESB.
Fauziah Datuk Din said the refund brought much-needed relief during challenging times and thanked Daily Express for highlighting her complaint.
She had also lodged a complaint directly with SESB on May 14, and in a letter the following day, the utility company admitted that an error had occurred.
SESB explained that the higher electricity charges were due to a mistake during the tariff adjustment process, which affected the final amount payable and included penalties.
The company confirmed that the bill was recalculated based on actual consumption and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Fauziah said her bill for her 22-room hotel had jumped from about RM2,000 to over RM9,000 per month following the new tariff, prompting her to seek assistance.
She also called on the Madani Government for help, saying the increase had been overwhelming.
Meanwhile, another budget hotel owner, K Victor, said many hotels had been affected by the new tariff and urged SESB to review the adjustments, noting that not all operators were able to lodge formal complaints.
