PENAMPANG: A 46-year-old man was arrested and about 300 litres of subsidised diesel seized in an early morning Op Tiris raid, here, Tuesday.
Penampang Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the operation was carried out following intelligence and information related to the alleged misappropriation of controlled goods.
He said the activity was believed to have been conducted without valid permits or approval from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).
“A team from the Internal Security and Public Order Division (BKDNKA) of the Penampang district police headquarters conducted surveillance at a petrol station in Penampang before detaining the suspect,” he said in a statement.
The suspect is believed to have been involved in purchasing and collecting diesel unlawfully using a modified one-tonne rigid lorry fitted with a canvas fuel tank.
Police also seized about 300 litres of diesel, a one-tonne lorry, a bank card, a mobile phone and several other items believed to have been used in the activity.
The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM68,645.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
The suspect and seized items have been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further action.
Supt Sammy said police would continue intensifying enforcement operations to curb the misappropriation of controlled goods in the interest of national security and public wellbeing.
He also urged members of the public with information on such activities to channel information to the police to assist enforcement efforts.
