KENINGAU: Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampong Baru Bingkor emerged as the overall champion of the Bingkor Zone School Sports Council (MSS) Championship 2026 after excelling in winning seven gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the championship held at the Keningau Sports Complex recently.
The success thus places the school as one of the main contenders in the primary school sports arena in the Bingkor zone this year through the consistent performance of their young athletes in various track and field events.
Even more proud, the school’s athlete Arwena Ruby, was crowned as the sportswoman after successfully breaking the long jump record with a jump of 4.29 metres.
This extraordinary achievement not only stole the attention of the tournament participants, but also proved the great potential of young rural athletes to compete at a higher level if they continue to be given guidance and support.
The 2026 Bingkor Zone MSS Championship brings together the participation of several schools around the Bingkor zone in an effort to uncover new talent and strengthen sports development at the grassroots level.
SK Kampong Baru Bingkor’s victory is also described as the result of close cooperation between the school, teachers, coaches and parents in shaping a sports culture and discipline among students.
Earlier, Assistant Minister of Finance Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub who officiated the event said school athletics championships are not just a field for chasing medals, but an important platform to shape the discipline, leadership and identity of the younger generation.
He said that student involvement in sports activities needs to be further strengthened in line with the country’s educational aspirations to produce students who are balanced academically, physically, emotionally and socially.
“I believe that championships like this not only produce excellent athletes, but also shape a young generation who are disciplined, brave to try and able to work as a team,” he said.
In the meantime, he also expressed his appreciation to the teachers and parents who are described as the backbone of the students’ success through their support, guidance and continuous commitment.
He hoped that the tournament could be a medium to strengthen the bonds of friendship between schools in the Apin-Apin Zone and to instil sportsmanship among students.
“Compete healthily, respect the referees and opponents and show integrity throughout the tournament,” he said.
At the event, he also congratulated the organising committee for the success of organising the tournament before officially opening the 53rd Apin-Apin Zone MSS Athletics Championship 2026.
