RANAU: A 23-year-old man was arrested and ketum products worth an estimated RM3,940 seized during a police raid in Kampung Kinapulidan here on Saturday night.
Ranau District Police Chief Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the operation was conducted at about 10pm by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJN) and the Internal Security and Public Order Division (KDNKA).
He said the raid was mounted following intelligence on alleged ketum distribution activities in the area.
During the operation, police detained the suspect and carried out a search of the premises.
The search led to the discovery of eight 1.5-litre bottles containing ketum water concealed in a white polystyrene container.
Police also seized 37 packets of powdered ketum weighing 1kg each.
Mursalin said the total value of the seized ketum products was estimated at RM3,940.
The suspect was taken to the BSJN office at the Ranau District Police Headquarters for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
Mursalin urged the public to continue assisting police by providing information on suspected illegal activities, adding that enforcement efforts against the distribution of prohibited substances would be intensified.
