KENINGAU: Firefighters contained a liquefied petroleum gas leak at a seven-unit temporary residential block in Kampung Masjid, here. A faulty cylinder valve was found to be the cause.
The incident is the latest in a series of gas-related emergencies reported in Keningau in recent weeks.
The Keningau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 3.43pm and eight personnel led by Norhasrita Abdul Manan were dispatched to the scene.
All residents had already evacuated the block and assembled at a safe distance by the time the team arrived.
Operating under standard procedures, the team deployed the soap-water test technique to pinpoint the leak and confirmed the source was the gas cylinder’s faulty valve.
Personnel removed the cylinder to an open area to neutralise the explosion risk and a nearby gas supplier who arrived shortly after replaced it with a new unit.

A similar occurrence was reported at Kota Ayangan on April 17, while a more serious explosion at Taman Adika on April 26 destroyed a kitchen, left the occupant with burn injuries and caused lasting trauma to the victim and neighbouring residents.
