KENINGAU: Five families who lost their homes in a fire in Kg Takad, Apin-Apin, recently received immediate support from local leaders, providing relief amid their tragic circumstances.

Kitingan, alongside Assistant Minister of Finance and Bingkor Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub, personally extended assistance to the affected families.
Representing the Sabah Agricultural Marketing Authority (Sama) Chairman, Keningau Parliamentary Special Development Officer Saldvilla Wences led a delegation to the site to deliver welfare aid and daily food baskets.
The Bingkor Community Development Unit Leaders’ Office (UPPM) and the Keningau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre also acted swiftly, distributing basic necessities and financial contributions to the victims.
Representatives from both offices visited the families on-site, demonstrating solidarity and support during their time of hardship.
In addition, the leaders proposed the reconstruction of the affected homes under the Rumah Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative, ensuring the families would have safer and more stable living conditions.
The fire broke out at approximately 7.00 am, destroying three houses and leaving five families homeless. Firefighters arrived around 7.30 am and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The affected homeowners included Junie @ Joharie Barutan @ Mahadi and Amingin @ Abidin Barutan @ Mahadi, along with their family members.
This incident highlights an action-oriented leadership approach, where aid was delivered immediately, addressing the urgent needs of grassroots communities.
