Speaking on Wednesday, she described the contingent as a strong team carrying the district’s hopes into the tournament.
However, she said funding remained a major challenge for the players and officials, especially to cover transportation, accommodation and meals throughout the championship.
“Financial limitations are the main issue, but the players remain determined to represent Sipitang. I have contributed assistance to help with their needs during the tournament and they will depart for Kudat on May 8,” she said.
Maria also called on members of the public to contribute donations to help ease the burden on the students and teachers accompanying the teams.
The contingent will be accompanied by several teachers and officials, including SK Kebawang headmaster Pauline Anthony Sigar, who will serve as Technical and Sports Development Officer, and district referee Mirza Wassim.
For the boys’ team, officials include Abdul Raup Sapar, Azhar Jismil, Mohd Hafiz Samil, Sahruddin Abidin and Josehua Keelam Josli.
The girls’ squad will be managed by Hanafiah Ismail, with Fong Chui Mie as assistant manager. The coaching line-up includes head coach Siti Nur Hayati Julkarim from SK Kalangsat and assistant head coach Ammi Nadzirah Mohd Yussof from SK Melamam.
Other members of the contingent include Noratira Mahmud, coach Mohd Hafizd Kassim Muhammad, assistant coach Muhammad Hamdi Rija Mat Juri and physiotherapist Muhammad Azlie Sumain.
Among the Under-12 boys selected are players from SK Melamam, SK Mesapol, SK Kebawang and SK Mendulong, while the Under-12 girls’ squad comprises students from SK Kalangsat, SK Mendulong and SK Melamam.
The district will also field Under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams, with most players coming from SMK Pengiran Omar II and SMK Sindumin.
Maria said she was proud of the students chosen to represent Sipitang and hoped the teams would perform well while bringing honour to the district at the state-level meet.
