YBs’ help sought on dilapidated Beaufort bridge
Uneven steel plates on the bridge.
BEAUFORT: The Public Works Department (JKR) is urged to immediately repair a bridge in Kampung Padas Valley near a sewerage building, which is currently only covered with steel plates and is very dangerous to use.

A resident, known only as Sanan, said this in a Facebook post on Tuesday. He added that the bridge is worn out and only covered with steel plates despite being used by many road users.

The bridge serves as the main route for transporting palm oil, but its condition is extremely dilapidated and full of holes, merely covered with steel plates. If a vehicle hits the edge of these plates, it could easily cause a tire to burst due to the uneven arrangement.

“Either the Public Works Department or the concessionaire needs to look into the necessity of this bridge for the safety of road users, especially lorries transporting palm oil,” he said.

The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) is also urged to contact the Public Works Department and inform them about the bridge’s condition, as a collapse would make it difficult to transport palm oil produce.

He added that the bridge has been damaged and in poor condition for a long time. He hoped it will be repaired soon. As for now, he said, it remains in a state of disrepair with poorly arranged steel plates.

Village residents also appealed to Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam and Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah to take appropriate action by contacting the Public Works Department so that the issue does not persist.
