KENINGAU: The concrete bridge construction project in Kg Bingkor Lama has reached approximately 70 percent completion, following field monitoring by Bingkor Mukim Developer Freddoline Ted Jack Abin to ensure the work proceeds according to schedule and specifications.
A recent site inspection showed that the project is nearing completion, bringing significant improvements to the main route used by local residents.
Previously, a narrow and dilapidated one-way wooden bridge served as the village’s primary link, often posing safety risks, especially at night due to poor lighting and unsafe conditions.
The new two-way concrete bridge is expected to improve accessibility and enhance user safety.
The upgraded facility will benefit school students, farmers, and both public and private sector workers who rely on the route daily. It will also strengthen connectivity between the village and the towns of Bingkor and Keningau, including access to the hospital.
Residents have welcomed the development. A villager known as Amai expressed gratitude for the safer structure.
“We are grateful for the government’s concern. We used to worry, especially at night. Now we can see the change,” he said.
Another resident, an “Odu” in her 50s, suggested further improvements.
“If possible, install solar lights along the bridge and the Kampung Bingkor Lama road so it will be brighter and more comfortable, especially at night,” she said.
The Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) continues to monitor the project to ensure timely completion and compliance with technical standards.
The initiative aligns with the approach of Bingkor Assemblyman Datuk Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub, who emphasises development that directly benefits the people and addresses grassroots needs.
Once completed, the bridge will not only serve as vital infrastructure but also stand as a symbol of transformation — from a dark and risky route to a safer and more hopeful path for the community.
