BEAUFORT: Three individuals were detained in two separate drug operations in Menumbok and Kampung Binsulok, Membakut on Wednesday as police intensified efforts against drug abuse in the district.
Beaufort district police chief Supt Champin Piuh said the first case involved the detention of a foreign man by personnel from the Menumbok police station during a crime prevention patrol at Kampung Tanjung Aru, Menumbok.

He said officers became suspicious of the man’s behaviour by the roadside before conducting an inspection.
“Checks on the suspect led to the discovery of a transparent straw tube containing crystal-like substances believed to be Methamphetamine, or syabu, weighing about 0.23 gram,” he said.
Police also seized RM50 cash from the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs.
In a separate operation, the Beaufort District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division raided a house in Kampung Binsulok, Membakut, leading to the detention of two local men.
Initial urine screening tests found both suspects positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.
Champin said Beaufort police would continue carrying out aggressive enforcement operations to combat drug-related activities in the district.
“Drug abuse remains a serious threat to society and public cooperation is important in helping police curb such activities,” he said.
